Tell them the story of Abraham, 69 When he said to his father and his people, "What do you worship?" 70 They answered: We worship idols, and we remain ever devoted to them." 71 He said: Do they hear you when you call? 72 Or do they profit you or cause you harm? 73 They replied, "But we found our fathers doing the same." 74 He said: "Have you considered what you have been worshipping, 75 you and your forefathers of yore? 76 are my enemies? Not so the Lord of the Universe. 77 Who created me and showed me the way, 78 And He Who gives me to eat and gives me to drink: 79 And when I am sick, then He restores me to health 80 He who will cause me to die and bring me back to life; 81 and whom I am eager shall forgive me my sins on the Day of Recompense' 82 My Lord! Bestow Hukman (religious knowledge, right judgement of the affairs and Prophethood) on me, and join me with the righteous; 83 And ordain for me a goodly mention among posterity 84 Make me inherit the bountiful Paradise. 85 And forgive my father. Indeed, he has been of those astray. 86 And disgrace me not on the Day when (all the creatures) will be resurrected; 87 the Day when nothing will avail, neither wealth nor offspring, 88 except for him who comes to God with a pure heart. 89 When Paradise shall be brought near to the God-fearing 90 And Hell made visible to those who had gone astray. 91 And it will be said unto them: Where is (all) that ye used to worship 92 besides God? Can they help you or even help themselves?" 93 Thereupon they will be hurled into hell - they, as well as all [others] who had been lost in grievous error, 94 and the hosts of Iblis - all together. 95 "Quarrelling therein with each other, 96 they will say, "By God, we were in clear error 97 When we made you equal with the Lord of the Worlds. 98 And none but the guilty led us astray; 99 So we have no intercessors, 100 "'Nor a single friend to feel (for us). 101 If only we could return we would be among the believers." 102 Indeed in this is a sign; and most of them were not believers. 103 And verily thy Lord is He, the Exalted in Might, Most Merciful. 104
