Hath there come unto thee the story of Ibrahim's honoured guests? 24 When they came to him they said, "Peace!" He answered, "Peace!" [saying to himself]. "They are strangers." 25 Then he went back to his family and brought a fat roasted calf 26 And placed it near them; he said, "Will you not eat?" 27 beginning to be afraid of them. But they said, "Don't be afraid"; and they gave him the good news of a son who would be endowed with knowledge. 28 But his wife came forward (laughing) aloud: she smote her forehead and said: "A barren old woman!" 29 They said: Even so saith thy Lord. Lo! He is the Wise, the Knower. 30 ۞ Said [Abraham]: "And what [else] may you have in view, O you [heavenly] messengers?" 31 They said: "We have been sent to a people who are Mujrimun (polytheists, sinners, criminals, disbelievers in Allah); 32 That we may send upon them stones of clay, 33 Marked by thy Lord for (the destruction of) the wanton. 34 So We brought out whoever was in the cities of the believers. 35 But did not find more than a single family of believers. 36 and left therein a sign for those who fear the painful punishment. 37 And in Moses (was another Sign): Behold, We sent him to Pharaoh, with authority manifest. 38 But he turned away with his forces and said: A magician or a mad man. 39 Then We seized him and his army and cast them all into the sea: he himself [Pharaoh] was to blame. 40 And in (the tribe of) A'ad (there is a portent) when we sent the fatal wind against them. 41 which turned everything it approached into dust. 42 And in Thamud, when We said to them: "Enjoy yourselves for a while;" 43 But they brazenly disobeyed their Lord's command, and then a sudden chastisement overtook them while they looked on. 44 and they were not able to stand upright, and were not helped. 45 And [thus, too, We destroyed] Noah's people aforetime: for they were iniquitous folk. 46
