Overwhelming (Al-Ghaasheyah)
In the Name of Allah, the Most Beneficent, the Most Merciful
Has not there come to you the news of the overwhelming calamity? 1 On that day (many) faces will be downcast, 2 labouring, toilworn, 3 about to enter a glowing fire, 4 and will be made to drink from a boiling spring, 5 For them there will be no food except from a poisonous, thorny plant 6 which gives no strength and neither stills hunger. 7 However, on that day the faces of other people will be happy. 8 well pleased with the result of their striving, 9 In a lofty Paradise. 10 Never hearing idle talk. 11 In it there shall be a flowing spring, 12 therein uplifted couches 13 And goblets set at hand 14 cushions ranged, 15 and carpets outspread. 16 What, do they not consider how the camel was created, 17 And how the heaven was raised up, 18 and how the mountains were firmly fixed? 19 And the earth, how it was spread out? 20 (Muhammad), preach; you are only a preacher. 21 Thou art not at all a warder over them. 22 As for those who turn their back and disbelieve, 23 Allah will punish them with the greatest punishment. 24 To Us is surely their returning; 25 Then verily, for Us will be their reckoning. 26
