He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
۞ He frowned and turned away 1 Because a blind man came to him. 2 Yet for all thou didst know, [O Muhammad,] he might perhaps have grown in purity, 3 or yet remember, and the Reminder profit him. 4 As for him who is not in want of any thing, 5 To him dost thou attend; 6 What does it matter to you if he will not become pure (from disbelief, you are only a Messenger, your duty is to convey the Message of Allah). 7 And for him who came to you striving, 8 And he feareth 9 of him you were unmindful. 10 These verses are a reminder 11 (and whoso wills, shall remember it) 12 In honored books, 13 Exalted, purified, 14 by the hands of scribes 15 Noble and pious. 16 May man be slain – how ungrateful he is! 17 From what substance did He create him? 18 From Nutfah (male and female semen drops) He created him, and then set him in due proportion; 19 Then maketh the way easy for him, 20 and in the end He causes him to die and brings him to the grave; 21 Then when He pleases, He will bring him back to life. 22 Yet man declines to do His bidding. 23 Then let man look at his food, (and how We provide it): 24 how We pour down rain in abundance, 25 Then We broke open the earth, splitting [it with sprouts], 26 Thereby produced grain in it. 27 grapes, vegetables, 28 And olives and date-palms, 29 Orchards thick with trees, 30 And fruits and fodder,- 31 [As] enjoyment for you and your grazing livestock. 32 But when the Shout cometh 33 on that Day each person will flee from his brother, 34 And from his mother and his father, 35 And his spouse and his son-- 36 For every one of them on that Day shall be business enough to occupy 37 Some faces that Day will be beaming, 38 Laughing, rejoicing. 39 And some faces will on that Day with dust be covered, 40 Blackness overcoming them. 41 Those are the disbelievers, the wicked. 42
