The Inevitable (Al-Waaqe'ah)
In the Name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
۞ When the Event will come to pass 1 Which is bound to happen undoubtedly -- 2 abasing [some,] exalting [others]! 3 When the earth is shaken with convulsion 4 And the mountains are broken down, crumbling 5 So that they shall be as scattered dust. 6 You shall then become three groups. 7 Then the companions of the right - what are the companions of the right? 8 And the Companions of the Left Hand,- what will be the Companions of the Left Hand? 9 and the Outstrippers: the Outstrippers 10 Those are they who will be brought nigh 11 In Gardens of Delight. 12 A number of the earlier peoples, 13 but only a few from the later generations. 14 On thrones woven [with ornament], 15 facing one another. 16 There will circulate among them young boys made eternal 17 Cups and decanters, beakers full of sparkling wine, 18 by which their minds will not be clouded and which will not make them drunk; 19 with fruits of their own choice 20 and such flesh of fowl as they desire, 21 and there shall be wide-eyed maidens, 22 Like pearls safely hidden. 23 As reward for what they used to do. 24 They will not hear any unnecessary or sinful talk 25 Nought but the saying: peace! peace! 26 And the companions of the right hand; how happy are the companions of the right hand! 27 They will live amid the thornless lot trees 28 And clusters of banana plants. 29 and spreading shade 30 and waters gushing, 31 and abundant fruits, 32 never-ending and unrestricted, 33 And couches raised up. 34 We have indeed developed these women with an excellent development. 35 and made them virgins, 36 chaste, loving companions of the same age 37 for the people of the right hand 38
