Overwhelming (Al-Ghaasheyah)
In the name of Allah, the Compassionate, the Merciful
Hast thou received the story of the Enveloper? 1 Many faces will be contrite on that day, 2 toiling [under burdens of sin,] worn out [by fear,] 3 Burning in the scorching fire, 4 The while they are given, to drink, of a boiling hot spring, 5 They will have no food except bitter thorn, 6 Which will neither nourish nor satisfy hunger. 7 Some faces on that Day will be radiant, 8 Glad for their effort past, 9 They will live in an exalted garden 10 wherein thou wilt hear no empty talk. 11 Countless springs will flow therein, 12 [and] there will be thrones [of happiness] raised high, 13 And drinking-cups ready placed, 14 and arranged cushions 15 and well spread carpets. 16 What, do they not consider how the camel was created, 17 And the heaven – how it has been raised? 18 And at the mountains, how they are rooted? 19 And the earth – how it has been spread out? 20 So render good counsel, for you are simply required to counsel, 21 You are not a watcher over them; 22 But he who turns his back, and disbelieves, 23 In which case he will be punished by God with the severest punishment. 24 Certainly, it is to Us that they will return. 25 Then verily on Us is their reckoning. 26
