He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the Name of God, the Merciful, the Compassionate
۞ He frowned and turned away 1 when the blind came to him. 2 What made you think that he will not grow in virtue, 3 or take heed and derive benefit from [Our] warning? 4 Now as for him who believes himself to be self-sufficient 5 you attend to him, 6 though it is not thy concern, if he does not cleanse himself. 7 And to him who came to you eagerly 8 and fearfully, 9 you pay him no heed. 10 These verses are a reminder 11 For any one who desires to bear it in mind, 12 Inscribed in Writs honoured, 13 Exalted, Purified, 14 borne by the hands of scribes, 15 noble and most virtuous. 16 May (the disbelieving) human being be condemned! What makes him disbelieve? 17 Of what thing did He create him? 18 From a sperm-drop He created him and destined for him; 19 and then made the course of life easy for him, 20 He will then send him to death and have him laid in the grave. 21 then, He will raise him when He wills. 22 Nay; but he has not done what He bade him. 23 Let Man consider his nourishment. 24 We poured down rain abundantly, 25 and split the earth, splitting, 26 to yield therein corn, 27 together with grapes and vegetables, 28 and the olive, and the palm, 29 And garden-closes of thick foliage 30 and fruits and herbage, 31 Provision for you and your cattle. 32 But when the deafening cry shall be sounded 33 on that Day each person will flee from his brother, 34 And his mother and his father 35 and from his spouse and his children: 36 Every man that day will have concern enough to make him heedless (of others). 37 Some faces will shine, 38 Laughing, rejoicing. 39 but some faces will be covered with dust 40 Blackness overcoming them. 41 those -- they are the unbelievers, the libertines. 42
