He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the Name of Allah, the Most Beneficent, the Most Merciful
۞ He frowned and turned away 1 Because there came to him the blind man (interrupting). 2 And what should teach thee? Perchance he would cleanse him, 3 (He might) remember, and the Reminder might profit him. 4 As for he who thinks himself without need, 5 Unto him thou attendest. 6 although thou art not accountable for his failure to attain to purity; 7 but as for one who comes to you, eagerly 8 While he fears [Allah], 9 you pay him no heed. 10 Indeed, this [Quran] is an admonition. 11 So whoever wills may remember it. 12 [It is recorded] in honored sheets, 13 exalted and purified, 14 In the hands of scribes (angels). 15 Noble, virtuous. 16 Man is (self-)destroyed: how ungrateful! 17 Of what thing hath He created him? 18 From a sperm-drop He created him and destined for him; 19 He makes his path easy for him. 20 then He caused him to die and brought him to the grave, 21 Then, when it is His Will, He will resurrect him (again). 22 Nay; but he has not done what He bade him. 23 Then let man look at his food, (and how We provide it): 24 It is We Who pour forth water, pouring, 25 And We split the earth in fragments, 26 Then We cause therein the grain to grow, 27 grapes, and fresh fodder, 28 And the olive and the palm, 29 and burgeoning enclosed gardens 30 And fruits and fodder: 31 as provision for you and for your cattle to enjoy. 32 Then, when there comes As-Sakhkhah (the Day of Resurrection's second blowing of Trumpet), 33 That Day shall a man flee from his own brother, 34 And his mother and his father 35 And from his wife and sons. 36 Each man will have enough cares that day. 37 [Some] faces, that Day, will be bright - 38 Laughing, joyous. 39 Some faces on that Day shall be dust-ridden, 40 Covered with the blackness (of shame): 41 Such will be the Kafarah (disbelievers in Allah, in His Oneness, and in His Messenger Muhammad (Peace be upon him), etc.), the Fajarah (wicked evil doers). 42
