Tell them the story of Abraham, 69 when he said to his father and his people, 'What do you serve?' 70 They said: "We worship idols, and to them we are ever devoted." 71 He said: Do they hear you when ye cry? 72 Or, benefit they you or hurt they you? 73 They said: Nay, but we found our fathers acting on this wise. 74 He said: Have you then considered what you have been worshipping: 75 and what your grandfathers worshipped 76 They are an enemy to me, except the Lord of all Being 77 Who hath created me, and He guideth me. 78 Who gives me food and drink, 79 And when I am sick, then He restores me to health 80 And Who causeth me to die, then giveth me life (again), 81 and whom I am eager shall forgive me my sins on the Day of Recompense' 82 "O my Lord! bestow wisdom on me, and join me with the righteous; 83 And appoint for me an honourable mention among the posterity 84 And make me one of the inheritors of the Paradise of Delight; 85 and forgive my father; for he is one of the misguided; 86 Do not degrade me on the Day when they are resurrected. 87 the Day on which neither wealth will be of any use, nor children, 88 Except him who brings to Allah a clean heart [clean from Shirk (polytheism) and Nifaq (hypocrisy)]. 89 (On that Day) the Garden will be brought near to the God-fearing, 90 And hell will appear plainly to the erring. 91 It will be said to them: 'Where is that you worshipped, 92 "Instead of Allah? Can they help you or (even) help themselves?" 93 Then they shall be pitched into it, they and the perverse 94 And all the armies of Iblis. (Satan) 95 "They will say there in their mutual bickerings: 96 'By God, we were certainly in manifest error 97 when we made you equal with the Lord of the Universe. 98 No one but the sinners led us astray. 99 and we have no intercessors now, 100 "'Nor a single friend to feel (for us). 101 "'Now if we only had a chance of return we shall truly be of those who believe!'" 102 Indeed in this is a sign; and most of them were not believers. 103 Verily Your Lord is Immensely Mighty, Ever Compassionate. 104
