He Frowned ('Abasa)
Allah - beginning with the name of - the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
۞ He frowned and turned away. 1 Because the blind man came unto him. 2 But what would make you perceive, [O Muhammad], that perhaps he might be purified 3 Or be admonished, and the admonition profit him? 4 As to one who regards Himself as self-sufficient, 5 Unto him thou attendest. 6 though it is not thy concern, if he does not cleanse himself. 7 And as to him who comes to you striving hard, 8 And whereas he fears, 9 you pay no heed to him. 10 Nay, but verily it is an Admonishment, 11 So whoso wills may give heed to it. 12 In honored books, 13 Exalted, purified, 14 By the hands of scribes. 15 Noble and pious. 16 Woe to man! What hath made him reject Allah; 17 Of what substance God created him? 18 Of a drop of seed. He created him and formed him according to a measure. 19 then the way eased for him, 20 Then gave him death, so had him put in the grave. 21 Then, when it is His Will, He will raise him up (again). 22 Indeed, he has not fulfilled that which He has ordered him. 23 Let the human being think about (how We produce) his food. 24 We send down abundant water, 25 And We split the earth in fragments, 26 And produce therein corn, 27 And grapes and green fodder 28 and olives, and palms, 29 and dense orchards, 30 And fruits and fodder: 31 as provision for you and for your cattle to enjoy. 32 Then when cometh the Deafening Cry 33 On the day when a man fleeth from his brother 34 And his mother and his father 35 As well as his wife and children. 36 Each one of them, that Day, will have enough concern (of his own) to make him indifferent to the others. 37 Some faces that Day will be beaming, 38 Laughing, rejoicing. 39 whereas some faces will be covered with dust 40 Covered with the blackness (of shame): 41 It is they, the disbelievers, the sinners. 42
