He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the name of Allah, most benevolent, ever-merciful
۞ He frowned and turned away. 1 Because the blind man had come in his august presence. 2 But what would make you perceive, [O Muhammad], that perhaps he might be purified 3 Or be reminded and the remembrance would benefit him? 4 As to one who regards Himself as self-sufficient, 5 To him you attend; 6 although thou art not accountable for his failure to attain to purity; 7 And as to him who comes to you striving hard, 8 and fears (Allah), 9 You neglect. 10 Nay, (do not do like this), indeed it (these Verses of this Quran) are an admonition, 11 For any one who desires to bear it in mind, 12 Inscribed in Writs honoured, 13 Exalted, Purified, 14 In the hands of scribes 15 noble and pious. 16 Perish the human! How unthankful he is! 17 From what substance did He create him? 18 From a drop of liquid; He created him and then set several measures for him. 19 Then the way He made easy. 20 then causes him to die and buries him, 21 then, He will raise him when He wills. 22 By no means hath he fulfilled what Allah hath commanded him. 23 Then let man look at his food, 24 how We pour down rain in abundance, 25 and then We cleaved the earth asunder. 26 And We made corn grow, 27 and grape vines and vegetables, 28 And olives and date palms, 29 And gardens of dense shrubbery 30 And fruits and herbage 31 [As] enjoyment for you and your grazing livestock. 32 But when the Shout cometh 33 On the day when a man fleeth from his brother 34 Mother and father, 35 his wife and his sons: 36 Each one of them, that Day, will have enough concern (of his own) to make him indifferent to the others. 37 Many a face will be glittering on that day. 38 Laughing and full of joy, 39 And faces on that Day! upon them shall be gloom. 40 Covered with the blackness (of shame): 41 They will be the unbelievers, transgressors. 42
