He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the Name of God, the Merciful, the Compassionate
۞ (The Prophet) frowned and turned away, 1 Because a blind man came to him. 2 Yet for all thou didst know, [O Muhammad,] he might perhaps have grown in purity, 3 or yet remember, and the Reminder profit him. 4 Yet you pay attention 5 to him didst thou give thy whole attention, 6 though you will not be questioned even if he never purifies himself. 7 But as to him who came to you running. 8 And he fears, 9 You neglect. 10 Nay, (do not do like this), indeed it (these Verses of this Quran) are an admonition, 11 So whoever wills, let him pay attention to it. 12 upon pages high-honoured, 13 exalted and purified, 14 (Written) by the hands of scribes- 15 noble and purified. 16 Be cursed (the disbelieving) man! How ungrateful he is! 17 [Does man ever consider] out of what substance [God] creates him? 18 From a sperm-drop: He hath created him, and then mouldeth him in due proportions; 19 Then the way He made easy. 20 and in the end He causes him to die and brings him to the grave; 21 Then when He listeth, He shall raise him to life. 22 Nay, but (man) hath not done what He commanded him. 23 Let man consider his food: 24 How We pour water in showers 25 Then We split the earth properly. 26 to yield therein corn, 27 And grapes and herbage, 28 And olive-trees and palm-trees 29 and dense-tree'd gardens, 30 And fruits and herbage 31 for you and for your herds to delight in. 32 AND SO, when the piercing call [of resurrection] is heard 33 on that Day a man shall flee from his own brother, 34 and from his mother and father, 35 And his wife and his children, 36 for on that day everyone will be completely engrossed in his own concerns. 37 Some faces will on that Day be bright with happiness, 38 Laughing, rejoicing at good news; 39 And (many) faces on that day, on them shall be dust, 40 Covered with the blackness (of shame): 41 those -- they are the unbelievers, the libertines. 42
