He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
۞ The Prophet frowned and turned away 1 Because the blind man came unto him. 2 And what do you know, he may be of the pure! 3 Or become reminded so that the reminder should profit him? 4 As for him who considers himself free from need (of you), 5 Unto him thou attendest. 6 though it is not thy concern, if he does not cleanse himself. 7 And as to him who comes to you striving hard, 8 and fearfully, 9 you pay him no heed. 10 Nay! surely it is an admonishment. 11 For any one who desires to bear it in mind, 12 In honored books, 13 Exalted, Purified, 14 Written by the hands of emissaries. 15 noble and most virtuous. 16 Accursed be man! How stubbornly he denies the Truth. 17 Of what did He create him? 18 Of a sperm-drop He created him, and determined him, 19 then eased his path for him, 20 Then He causeth him to die, and putteth him in his grave; 21 Then, when He will, He bringeth him again to life. 22 Indeed, he has not fulfilled that which He has ordered him. 23 Then let man look at his food, 24 We let the rain pour down in torrents 25 Thereafter We cleave the earth in clefts, 26 Thereby produced grain in it. 27 And grapes and clover, 28 And the olive and the palm, 29 thickly planted gardens, 30 And fruits and Abba (herbage, etc.), 31 for you and for your animals to enjoy. 32 At length, when there comes the Deafening Noise,- 33 on that Day a man shall flee from his own brother, 34 And from his mother and father, 35 his wife and his children. 36 Every man of them shall on that day have an affair which will occupy him. 37 Some faces that Day will be beaming, 38 Laughing and full of joy, 39 And (many) faces on that day, on them shall be dust, 40 o'erspread with darkness -- 41 Those are the disbelievers, the wicked. 42
