The News (Al-Naba')
40 verses, revealed in Mecca after The Heights (Al-Ma'aarej) before The Snatchers (Al-Naze'aat)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
۞ Of what do they question one another? 1 Of the mighty Announcement, 2 that they are in utter disagreement? 3 No indeed; they shall soon know! 4 Again, indeed, they shall know! 5 HAVE WE NOT made the earth a resting-place [for you,] 6 And the mountains as stakes? 7 And We created you in pairs, 8 And made your sleep a rest. 9 and made the night a covering, 10 and made the day [a symbol of] life. 11 And We made above you seven strong ones, 12 And made [therein] a burning lamp 13 and have sent down from the clouds, pouring rain 14 Thereby to produce grain and plant, 15 And gardens thick with trees. 16 Indeed, the Day of Judgement is an appointed time - 17 It is a Day whereon the trumpet will be blown, and ye will come in multitudes. 18 and the heaven shall be opened, and become gates, 19 And the hills are set in motion and become as a mirage. 20 Indeed, Gehenna (Hell) has become an ambush, 21 a home for the transgressors, 22 In which they will remain for ages [unending]. 23 tasting therein neither coolness nor any drink 24 Save scalding water and corruption. 25 , A fitting reward. 26 For lo! they looked not for a reckoning; 27 having given the lie to Our messages one and all: 28 And all things We have recorded in a Book. 29 So taste (of that which ye have earned). No increase do We give you save of torment. 30
