He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the Name of God, the Merciful, the Compassionate
۞ He frowned and turned away 1 that the blind man came to him. 2 You never know. Perhaps he wanted to purify himself, 3 Or become reminded so that the reminder should profit him? 4 As for him who thinks himself self-sufficient, 5 To him do you address yourself. 6 And not upon you [is any blame] if he will not be purified. 7 But as to him who came to you running. 8 And he fears, 9 Of him wast thou unmindful. 10 Nay! surely it is an admonishment. 11 So whoever wishes may remember it. 12 In honored books, 13 Exalted, Purified, 14 by the hands of scribes 15 Honourable and obedient. 16 Cursed be man! how ungrateful is he! 17 Of what [stuff] has He created him? 18 From a drop of seed. He createth him and proportioneth him, 19 Then He makes the Path easy for him; 20 He will then send him to death and have him laid in the grave. 21 then, when He wills, He raises him. 22 But no. He has not fulfilled what was enjoined on him. 23 Let man reflect on the food he eats. 24 We poured water, pouring it in great abundance, 25 then We split the earth in fissures 26 And We made corn grow, 27 grapes, vegetables, 28 And Olives and Dates, 29 And gardens, dense with many trees, 30 And fruits and grasses: 31 A provision for you and for your cattle. 32 When the trumpet sounds, 33 That Day shall a man flee from his own brother, 34 And from his mother and father, 35 and from his spouse and his children: 36 for on that day everyone will be completely engrossed in his own concerns. 37 [Some] faces, that Day, will be bright - 38 laughing and joyous 39 And [other] faces, that Day, will have upon them dust. 40 Veiled in darkness, 41 those -- they are the unbelievers, the libertines. 42
