The Comet (Al-Taareq)
In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful
By heaven and the night-star! 1 And what shall teach thee what is the night-star? 2 It is the star that shines with a piercing brightness -- 3 There is no soul which is not guarded (by the two angels who record all of its deeds). 4 Let man reflect on what he was created from. 5 He was created of a gushing fluid, 6 That is issued from between the backs and the ribs. 7 God has certainly power to bring him back (from the dead). 8 On the Day when man's deepest secrets shall be put to the test 9 Then he shall have no power nor any helper. 10 So I call to witness the rain-producing sky, 11 by the earth cracking open with new growth. 12 BEHOLD, this [divine writ] is indeed a word that distinguishes between truth and falsehood, 13 It is not a thing for amusement. 14 They are cunningly devising, 15 and so am I: 16 Therefore grant a delay to the Unbelievers: Give respite to them gently (for awhile). 17
