Overwhelming (Al-Ghaasheyah)
In the name of Allah, most benevolent, ever-merciful
HAS THERE COME unto thee the tiding of the Overshadowing Event? 1 Many a face will be disgraced on that day. 2 laboring, wornout, 3 Burning in the scorching fire, 4 Given to drink of a spring fiercely boiling. 5 No food for them save bitter thorn-fruit 6 Which doth not nourish nor release from hunger. 7 In that day other faces will be calm, 8 With their effort [they are] satisfied 9 In the high empyrean, 10 Where they shall neither hear harmful speech nor falsehood, 11 There is a stream of running water in it; 12 In which are high thrones. 13 and goblets set at hand, 14 And cushions lined up 15 and well spread carpets. 16 DO, THEN, they [who deny resurrection] never gaze at the clouds pregnant with water, [and observe] how they are created? 17 And the heaven – how it has been raised? 18 And the hills, how they are set up? 19 And at the earth, how it is outspread? 20 Admonish thou then; thou art but an admonisher. 21 Thou art not one to manage (men's) affairs. 22 But whosoever will turn back and disbelieve 23 Him Allah shall torment with the greatest torment. 24 Indeed, to Us they shall return, 25 Ours is surely then to reckon with them. 26
