A (goodly) number from those of old, 39 and a throng of the later folk. 40 As for the People on the Left: how miserable will be the People on the Left! 41 They will find themselves in scorching wind and scalding water, 42 and the shadows of black smoke 43 Neither cool nor beneficial. 44 They were endowed with good things 45 and persisted in the great sin 46 and constantly said: 'What, when we are dead and become dust and bones, shall we then be restored to life? 47 And also our forefathers? 48 Proclaim, “Without doubt all – the former and the latter.” 49 Are going to be assembled on the appointed time of a Day Known. 50 Then lo! ye, the erring, the deniers, 51 you shall eat (the fruit) of the Tree of Zakkum. 52 filling your bellies with it; 53 and on top of this you will drink boiling water 54 Drinking even as the camel drinketh. 55 That is their accommodation on the Day of Recompense. 56 We have created you, so why do you not believe? 57 Have you thought about what (sperm) you ejaculate? 58 Is it you who creates it, or are We the Creator? 59 We have decreed among you Death; We shall not be outstripped; 60 from changing your Forms and creating you (again) in (forms) that ye know not. 61 You certainly knew about (your) first development. Why do you not take heed? 62 Have you seen what you sow? 63 Is it you who cause it to grow - or are We the cause of its growth? 64 If We so pleased, We could turn your harvest into chaff. Then you would start lamenting, 65 “We have been penalised; 66 Rather, we have been deprived." 67 See ye the water which ye drink? 68 Send it down ye from the raincloud, or are We the Sender down? 69 Did We will, We would make it bitter; so why are you not thankful? 70 And have you seen the fire that you ignite? 71 Is it you who made the tree thereof to grow, or are We the Grower? 72 We! it is We Who made it a reminder and a provision unto the campers. 73 Then, exalt the Name of your Lord, the Great. 74
