Dawn (Al-Fajr)
In the name of Allah, most benevolent, ever-merciful
I CALL TO witness the dawn 1 By the ten nights (i.e. the first ten days of the month of Dhul-Hijjah). 2 The multiple and the one, 3 by the night when it journeys on! 4 is there not in this strong evidence for a man of sense? 5 Have you not seen what your Lord did to the 'Ad 6 [With] Iram - who had lofty pillars, 7 The like of which were not created in the land? 8 And with Thamud who hewed out rocks in the vale, 9 and with Pharaoh of the [many] tent-poles? 10 led rebellious lives, 11 and brought about great corruption therein: 12 Therefore your Lord struck them hard with the means of punishment. 13 Truly your Lord is ever watchful. 14 As for man, when his Lord tests him by exalting him and bestowing His bounties upon him, he says: “My Lord has exalted me.” 15 But whenever He trieth him by straitening his means of life, he saith: My Lord despiseth me. 16 By no means! But ye honour not the orphan, 17 Nor do you urge one another to feed the poor, 18 And you eat away the heritage, devouring (everything) indiscriminately, 19 And you love wealth with much love! 20 When the earth is crushed into small pieces 21 when your Lord comes down with the angels, rank upon rank, 22 And on that Day hell will be brought [within sight]; on that Day man will remember [all that he did and failed to do]: but what will that remembrance avail him? 23 He will say, "Oh, I wish I had sent ahead [some good] for my life." 24 But on that day shall no one chastise with (anything like) His chastisement, 25 None bindeth as He then will bind. 26 [But to the righteous, God will say], "O soul at peace, 27 Return unto thy Lord, content in His good pleasure! 28 Enter thou among My righteous bondmen! 29 Enter then My garden." 30
