He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful
۞ (The Prophet) frowned and turned away, 1 Because the blind man had come in his august presence. 2 But what would make you perceive, [O Muhammad], that perhaps he might be purified 3 Or become reminded so that the reminder should profit him? 4 As to one who regards Himself as self-sufficient, 5 To him do you address yourself. 6 though you are not to blame if he would not cleanse himself. 7 But he who comes to you running, 8 And is also fearful (of God), 9 From him you are distracted. 10 No indeed, this is a Reminder; 11 So whosoever willeth - let him be admonished therewlth. 12 On honoured leaves 13 Exalted, Purified, 14 In the hands of scribes 15 Noble and pious. 16 Perish the human! How unthankful he is! 17 Of what substance God created him? 18 Of a sperm-drop He created him, and determined him, 19 then eased his path for him, 20 and in the end He causes him to die and brings him to the grave; 21 Then when He listeth, He shall raise him to life. 22 By no means hath he fulfilled what Allah hath commanded him. 23 Then let mankind look at his food - 24 That We pour forth water in abundance, 25 and split the earth, splitting, 26 Thereby produced grain in it. 27 grapes, vegetables, 28 And olives and date palms, 29 And thick gardens, 30 And fruits and herbage 31 In order to benefit you and your cattle. 32 Then, when there comes As-Sakhkhah (the Day of Resurrection's second blowing of Trumpet), 33 on that Day a man shall flee from his own brother, 34 his mother, his father, 35 wife and sons, 36 for on that day everyone will be completely engrossed in his own concerns. 37 Some faces that Day will be beaming, 38 Laughing, rejoicing at good news; 39 but others will be gloomy 40 o'erspread with darkness -- 41 Such will be the Rejecters of Allah, the doers of iniquity. 42
