The Inevitable (Al-Waaqe'ah)
In the name of Allah, the Compassionate, the Merciful
۞ When there happeneth the Event. 1 – and then there will be no one to deny its occurrence – 2 It will bring low (some); (and others) it will exalt; 3 This will happen when the earth is shaken, shaken 4 and the mountains will crumble 5 So that they become dust seattered. 6 On that day, you (mankind) will be divided into three groups: 7 Companions of the Right, what are the Companions of the Right? 8 And there shall be such as will have lost themselves in evil: oh, how [unhappy] will be they who have lost themselves in evil! 9 And those who surpassed have indeed excelled. 10 they who were [always] drawn close unto God! 11 In gardens of delight; 12 A multitude of those (foremost) will be from the first generations (who embraced Islam). 13 And a few of later ages, 14 They will recline on jewelled couches 15 Reclining on them, facing each other. 16 Youths of never-ending bloom will pass round to them 17 With vessels, pitchers and a cup [of wine] from a flowing spring - 18 Whereby there shall be neither headiness nor will they be inebriated. 19 and such fruits as they shall choose, 20 Bird meats that they relish, 21 They will have maidens with large, lovely black and white eyes, 22 Like unto Pearls well-guarded. 23 All this shall be theirs as a reward for their deeds. 24 Therein they hear no vain or sinful discourse. 25 All talk will be sound and upright. 26 The Companions of the Right (O Companions of the Right!) 27 [They, too, will find themselves] amidst fruit laden lote-trees, 28 Among Talh (banana-trees) with fruits piled one above another, 29 and spreading shade 30 And water poured out 31 And fruit abundant. 32 That will neither finish, nor ever be stopped. 33 And [with them will be their] spouses, raised high: 34 Verily, We have created them (maidens) of special creation. 35 and shall have made them virgins, 36 intensely loving and of matching age. 37 For the fellows on the right hand. 38
