The Embryo (Al-Alaq)
19 verses, revealed in Mecca. First revelation of the Quran before The Pen (Al-Qalam)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
Read! In the Name of your Lord, Who has created (all that exists), 1 Has created man from a clot (a piece of thick coagulated blood). 2 Read, for your Lord is most beneficent, 3 who has taught [man] the use of the pen 4 The One Who taught man all what he did not know. 5 No! [But] indeed, man transgresses 6 because he thinks that he is independent. 7 Lo! unto thy Lord is the return. 8 Hast thou seen him who dissuadeth 9 A servant when he prays? 10 Have you thought, if he had been on guidance 11 Or enjoined guarding (against evil)? 12 Seest thou if he denies (Truth) and turns away? 13 Does he not know that Allah sees everything? 14 Yes certainly, if he does not desist, We will seize him by the forelock. 15 A lying, sinful forelock! 16 So, let him call upon his way! 17 [the while] We shall summon the forces of heavenly chastisement! 18 Nay, Obey not thou him. But prostrate thyself, and draw near (unto Allah). ۩ 19
True are the words of God the Almighty.
