He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the Name of God, the Merciful, the Compassionate
۞ He frowned and then turned away 1 that the blind man came to him. 2 But what would make you perceive, [O Muhammad], that perhaps he might be purified 3 or he might be mindful and good counsel might avail him. 4 As for him who thinketh himself independent, 5 Unto him thou attendest. 6 though you are not to blame if he would not cleanse himself. 7 As for him who comes to you striving (after goodness), 8 and fears (Allah), 9 to him thou payest no heed. 10 Assuredly this is a reminder 11 Therefore let whoso will, keep it in remembrance. 12 (This Quran) is also recorded in honorable books, 13 uplifted, purified, 14 borne by the hands of scribes, 15 Honourable and obedient. 16 Accursed is man. How ungrateful is he! 17 Of what thing did He create him? 18 From a sperm-drop He created him and destined for him; 19 then the way eased for him, 20 Then gave him death, so had him put in the grave. 21 then, He will raise him when He wills. 22 Yet man declines to do His bidding. 23 Then let man look to his food, 24 We poured down rain abundantly, 25 Then We split the earth properly. 26 then caused the grain to grow out of it, 27 And grapes and green fodder 28 And olives and date-palms, 29 and burgeoning enclosed gardens 30 And fruits and fodder: 31 (To be) a provision and benefit for you and your cattle. 32 But, when the Blast comes, 33 it will be such a day when a person will run away from his brother, 34 And from his mother and father, 35 his consort, his sons, 36 For every man, that Day, will be a matter adequate for him. 37 Some faces that Day, will be bright (true believers of Islamic Monotheism). 38 laughing, and rejoicing, 39 but some faces will be covered with dust 40 with darkness overspread: 41 those -- they are the unbelievers, the libertines. 42
