The News (Al-Naba')
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
۞ Of what do they question one another? 1 About the great tidings! 2 That over which they are in disagreement. 3 Surely yes, they will soon come to know! 4 Again, by no means! anon they shall know. 5 HAVE WE NOT made the earth a resting-place [for you,] 6 And the mountains as pegs? 7 and created you in pairs (as men and women), 8 And have made your sleep as a thing for rest. 9 and We made the night a mantle, 10 and made the day for earning a livelihood. 11 And We made above you seven strong ones, 12 And placed (therein) a Light of Splendour? 13 and sent down abundant water from the clouds 14 so that We might bring forth thereby grain, and herbs, 15 And dense gardens. 16 Verily, the Day of Decision is a fixed time, 17 The Day the Horn is blown and you will come forth in multitudes 18 and the heaven shall be opened, and become gates, 19 and the mountains are set in motion, and become a vapour. 20 Certainly Hell lies in wait, 21 a goal for all who are wont to transgress the bounds of what is right! 22 In it shall they remain for a long time. 23 They will not taste therein cool or any drink. 24 Except scalding water and [foul] purulence - 25 Reward proportioned (to their evil deeds). 26 Indeed, they were not expecting an account 27 and they rejected outright Our signs; 28 And all things We have recorded in a Book. 29 So taste! for We will not add to you aught but chastisement. 30
