The News (Al-Naba')
In the name of God, The Most Gracious, The Dispenser of Grace
۞ OF WHAT ARE they asking one another? 1 Of the mighty tiding 2 Concerning which they are in disagreement. 3 Indeed they will come to know soon; 4 Verily, verily they shall soon (come to) know! 5 Have We not made the earth as a place to rest 6 And the mountains as stakes? 7 And it is We who created you in pairs. 8 and We made your sleep a rest, 9 And We made the night to be a covering, 10 And made the day as a means of subsistence? 11 And We have built above you seven strong (heavens), 12 And placed a lamp therein brightly burning. 13 and have sent down out of the rainclouds water cascading 14 that We may bring forth with it grain, plants 15 and gardens dense with foliage. 16 Indeed the Day of Decision is a time fixed. 17 The day on which the trumpet shall be blown so you shall come forth in hosts, 18 And the heaven is opened and becometh as gates, 19 And the mountains shall be moved off so that they shall remain a mere semblance. 20 Surely, Hell lies in wait, 21 A home for the rebellious. 22 there, they shall live for ages, 23 Finding neither sleep nor any thing to drink 24 Except boiling water, and dirty wound discharges. 25 for a suitable recompense. 26 They indeed hoped not for a reckoning, 27 But they (impudently) treated Our Signs as false. 28 but We have recorded everything in a Book. 29 [And so We shall say:] "Taste, then, [the fruit of your evil doings,] for now We shall bestow on you nothing but more and more suffering!" 30
