He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the Name of Allah, the Merciful, the Most Merciful
۞ (The Prophet) frowned and turned away, 1 Because there came to him the blind man, [interrupting]. 2 You never know. Perhaps he wanted to purify himself, 3 or he might be mindful and good counsel might avail him. 4 For him who does not care, 5 to him didst thou give thy whole attention, 6 And no blame is on you if he would not purify himself 7 As for him who comes to you striving (after goodness), 8 and in awe of God 9 From him will you divert yourself. 10 NAY, VERILY, these [messages] are but a reminder: 11 (and whoso wills, shall remember it) 12 On honourable pages. 13 Exalted (in dignity), purified, 14 borne by the hands of scribes, 15 Noble and dutiful. 16 Man is (self-)destroyed: how ungrateful! 17 From what thing doth He create him? 18 From a drop of liquid; He created him and then set several measures for him. 19 Then (as for) the way-- He has made it easy (for him) 20 Then He causes him to die and be buried. 21 then, He will raise him when He wills. 22 Nay; but he has not done what He bade him. 23 So let man just consider his food: 24 We send down abundant water, 25 then We split the earth in fissures 26 Then We cause therein the grain to grow, 27 And grapes and clover, 28 and olives and palms, 29 And dense gardens, 30 And fruits and herbage 31 (These are made so as to be) means of enjoyment for you and your cattle. 32 Then when cometh the Deafening Cry 33 On the day when a man fleeth from his brother 34 his mother and his father, 35 And from his wife and sons. 36 On that day, each one has just one issue, which is enough for him. 37 Some faces will on that Day be bright with happiness, 38 laughing, rejoicing at glad tidings. 39 And other faces, that Day, will be dust-stained; 40 Blackness will cover them. 41 Those, they are the unbelievers, the immoral. 42
