He Frowned ('Abasa)
42 verses, revealed in Mecca after The Stars (Al-Najm) before Destiny (Al-Qadr)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
۞ He frowned and turned away 1 Because there came to him the blind man. 2 And what should teach thee? Perchance he would cleanse him, 3 Or become reminded so that the reminder should profit him? 4 As for him who is not in want of any thing, 5 you eagerly attended to him -- 6 though you are not to blame if he would not cleanse himself. 7 As for him who comes to you striving (after goodness), 8 And he fears, 9 From him will you divert yourself. 10 Indeed, this [Quran] is an admonition. 11 So whoever wishes may remember it. 12 It is set down on honoured pages, 13 exalted and purified, 14 by the hands of scribes 15 Noble and pious. 16 [But only too often] man destroys himself: how stubbornly does he deny the truth! 17 Of what thing hath He created him? 18 From a sperm-drop: He hath created him, and then mouldeth him in due proportions; 19 then the way eased for him, 20 Then He causes his death and provides a grave for him. 21 Then when He pleases, He will raise him to life again. 22 Not one he has not yet completed what he was commanded. 23 Let the human being think about (how We produce) his food. 24 We send down abundant water, 25 and then We cleave the earth [with new growth,] cleaving it asunder, 26 And cause the grain to grow therein 27 grapes, and fresh fodder, 28 And olives and palms 29 Orchards thick with trees, 30 And fruits and fodder,- 31 For use and convenience to you and your cattle. 32 AND SO, when the piercing call [of resurrection] is heard 33 on the Day when each man shall flee from his brother, 34 And his mother and his father 35 And from his wife and his children. 36 Everyman, that Day, will have enough to make him careless of others. 37 Many a face will be glittering on that day. 38 Laughing, rejoicing at good news (of Paradise). 39 And faces on that Day! upon them shall be gloom. 40 Veiled in darkness, 41 Those are the disbelievers, the wicked. 42
True are the words of God the Almighty.
End of Surah: He Frowned ('Abasa). Sent down in Mecca after The Stars (Al-Najm) before Destiny (Al-Qadr)
