Vanity (Al-Zukhruf)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
Ha. Mim. 1 By the Book that makes things clear,- 2 We verily, have made it a Quran in Arabic, that you may be able to understand (its meanings and its admonitions). 3 It is inscribed in the original Book (of Books) with Us, sublime, dispenser of (all) laws. 4 [O YOU who deny the truth!] Should We, perchance, withdraw this reminder from you altogether, seeing that you are people bent on wasting your own selves? 5 We have sent many a prophet to earlier peoples 6 but whenever a prophet came to them, they mocked him, 7 Wherefore We destroyed peoples mightier than these in prowess; and there hath gone forth the example of the ancients. 8 And if you ask them, “Who has created the heavens and the earth?”, they will surely say, “They are created by the Most Honourable, the All Knowing.” 9 Who hath made for you the earth a bed, and hath made for you paths therein that haply ye may be directed. 10 and who sent down out of heaven water in measure; and We revived thereby a land that was dead; even so you shall be brought forth; 11 It is He who has created everything in pairs and the ships and cattle for you to ride, 12 so that you may sit firmly on their backs. Then once you have mounted them, remember your Lord's favour and say, "Glory be to Him who has subjected these creatures to us; we would never on our own have subdued them. 13 indeed, to our Lord we are turning' 14 And they allot to Him a portion of His bondmen! Lo! man is verily a mere ingrate. 15
