۞ And assuredly We vouchsafed unto Ibrahim his rectitude aforetime, and him We had ever known. 51 Recall, when he said to his father and his people: "What are these images to which you are devoutly clinging?" 52 They replied: "We found our fathers worshipping them." 53 He said: Verily ye and your fathers were in plain error. 54 They said, "Have you brought us the Truth, or are you one of those who jest?" 55 'No' he answered, 'your Lord is the Lord of the heavens and the earth, the Originator of them, and I am among those bearing witness to it. 56 I swear by God I will do something to your idols when you have turned your backs and gone." 57 He shattered them all, except the biggest among them, that perhaps they may question it. 58 'Who has done this to our gods' they exclaimed. 'He must surely be a harmdoer' 59 'We have heard a young man called Abraham mention them' they replied. 60 Said they: Then bring him before the eyes of the people, perhaps they may bear witness. 61 They said: "Are you the one who has done this to our gods, O Ibrahim (Abraham)?" 62 He said: rather he hath wrought it, this big one of them; so question them, if they ever speak. 63 So they turned to themselves and said, "Surely ye are the ones in the wrong!" 64 Then they were made to hang down their heads: Certainly you know that they do not speak. 65 (Abraham) said, "Do ye then worship, besides Allah, things that can neither be of any good to you nor do you harm? 66 Uff to you and to what you worship instead of Allah. Then will you not use reason?" 67 They said: "Burn him, and come to the support of your gods, if you are going to do anything." 68 We said, “O fire, become cool and peaceful upon Ibrahim.” 69 They sought to outwit him, but We made them the worst of losers. 70 And We rescued him and Lout (Lot) to the land which We have blessed for the 'Alamin (mankind and jinns). 71 And We bestowed upon him Isaac and Jacob as an additional gift, making each of them righteous. 72 And We made them Imams who guided (people) by Our command, and We revealed to them the doing of good and the keeping up of prayer and the giving of the alms, and Us (alone) did they serve; 73 To Lot We gave knowledge and wisdom and saved him from the people of the town who were committing indecent acts. They were certainly a bad and sinful people. 74 And We admitted him into Our mercy; indeed he is among those who deserve Our proximity. 75
