He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful
۞ He frowned and turned away 1 Because there came to him the blind man (i.e. 'Abdullah bin Umm-Maktum, who came to the Prophet (Peace be upon him) while he was preaching to one or some of the Quraish chiefs). 2 for how can you know that he might seek to purify himself, 3 Or that he may accept advice, so the advice may benefit him. 4 As for he who is sufficed 5 you attended to him, 6 although it is not for you to be concerned if he remained unpurified. 7 But as to him who came to you running. 8 And whereas he fears, 9 From him you are distracted. 10 NAY, VERILY, these [messages] are but a reminder: 11 So whoever wills may remember it. 12 Inscribed in Writs honoured, 13 Exalted and holy, 14 By the hands of scribes. 15 noble and most virtuous. 16 May (the disbelieving) human being be condemned! What makes him disbelieve? 17 From what did He create him? 18 Out of a drop of sperm! He creates and proportions him, 19 and then makes it easy for him to go through life; 20 Then He causes him to die and be buried. 21 Then when He listeth, He shall raise him to life. 22 Nay, but man did not fulfil what Allah had enjoined upon him. 23 Then let man look at his food, (and how We provide it): 24 We let the rain pour down in torrents 25 and split the earth, splitting, 26 Then We cause to grow therein the grain, 27 grapes, vegetables, 28 And olives and palms 29 and dense orchards, 30 And fruits and Abba (herbage, etc.), 31 Provision for you and your cattle. 32 And when the Blast shall sound, 33 on a Day when everyone will [want to] flee from his brother, 34 And his mother and his father, 35 and his consort and his children; 36 Everyman, that Day, will have enough to make him careless of others. 37 Some faces will on that Day be bright with happiness, 38 Laughing and full of joy, 39 And some faces will on that Day with dust be covered, 40 Veiled in darkness, 41 Such will be the Rejecters of Allah, the doers of iniquity. 42
