The Inevitable (Al-Waaqe'ah)
In the name of Allah, the Entirely Merciful, the Especially Merciful
۞ When the Event inevitable cometh to pass, 1 there is no denying its coming 2 Abasing (one party), exalting (the other), 3 When the earth shall be shaken to its depths, 4 and the mountains will crumble 5 Turned to dust, floating in the air, 6 And you will become divided into three categories. 7 Those of the right hand -- how (happy) will be those of the right hand! 8 Those on the Left -- how unlucky are those on the Left! 9 and the Outstrippers: the Outstrippers 10 Who will be honoured 11 In Gardens of Delight. 12 A large group from the earlier generations. 13 And a few from the latter. 14 On studded thrones. 15 they shall recline, facing each other, 16 There wait on them immortal youths 17 Cups and decanters, beakers full of sparkling wine, 18 Wherefrom they will get neither any aching of the head, nor any intoxication. 19 and such fruits as they shall choose, 20 And with flesh of fowls from that which they desire. 21 and fair maidens with large, lustrous eyes 22 Like unto preserved pearls. 23 As reward for what they used to do. 24 No Laghw (dirty, false, evil vain talk) will they hear therein, nor any sinful speech (like backbiting, etc.). 25 Other than "Peace, peace" the salutation. 26 NOW AS FOR those who have attained to righteousness - what of those who have attained to righteousness? 27 Amid thornless lote-trees, 28 Bananatrees, piled 29 and spreading shade 30 Gushing water, 31 And plenty of fruits. 32 Unending, unforbidden, 33 and raised couches 34 We have formed them in a distinctive fashion, 35 And made them virginal, 36 intensely loving and of matching age. 37 For the companions of the right [who are] 38
