The News (Al-Naba')
Allah - beginning with the name of - the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
۞ Of what do they ask one another? 1 (Is it) of the great announcement 2 About which they are in disagreement. 3 Nay, but in time they will come to understand [it]! 4 Then, no! They are going to know. 5 HAVE WE NOT made the earth a resting-place [for you,] 6 And the mountains as pegs? 7 And We have created you in pairs (male and female, tall and short, good and bad, etc.). 8 And have made your sleep as a thing for rest. 9 And made the night as a covering, 10 And We made the day for seeking livelihood. 11 and built above you seven strong firmaments, 12 And placed (therein) a Light of Splendour? 13 And then sent down hard rain from the water bearing clouds. 14 so that We may bring forth thereby grain and a variety of plants, 15 And gardens of entwined growth. 16 VERILY, the Day of Distinction [between the true and the false] has indeed its appointed time: 17 On that Day when the trumpet shall be sounded, you shall come in droves, 18 And the heaven will have been opened, and it will have become doors. 19 And the mountains shall be moved away from their places and they will be as if they were a mirage. 20 Certainly Hell lies in wait, 21 The destination of the rebellious. 22 there, they shall live for ages, 23 Nothing cool shall they taste therein, nor any drink, 24 save boiling water and wash of the wounds; 25 a fitting requital, 26 Indeed, they were not expecting an account 27 and they absolutely belied Our verses, 28 And everything We have recorded in a book. 29 Therefore taste it now – We shall not increase anything for you except the punishment. 30
