The Thamud accused the messengers of lies. 141 when their brother Salih said to them, 'Will you not be godfearing? 142 I am for you an honest Messenger. 143 So fear God and follow me. 144 "No reward do I ask of you for it: my reward is only from the Lord of the Worlds. 145 Will you be left secure in this, 146 amidst [these] gardens and springs 147 “And fields and palm-trees, with delicate tendrils?” 148 carving comfortable houses out of the mountains? 149 "But fear Allah and obey me; 150 "And follow not the command of Al-Musrifun [i.e. their chiefs, leaders who were polytheists, criminals and sinners], 151 Who work corruption in the land and rectify not. 152 They said: "Thou art only one of those bewitched! 153 You are but a human like ourselves. Produce for us a sign, if you are of the truthful' 154 He said: "Here is a she-camel: she has a right of watering, and ye have a right of watering, (severally) on a day appointed. 155 And do not touch her with harm, lest you be seized by the punishment of a terrible day." 156 But they killed her, and then they became regretful. 157 So the chastisement seized them. Surely there is a Sign in this, but most of them would not believe. 158 But, verily, thy Sustainer - He alone - is almighty, a dispenser of grace! 159
