He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
۞ He frowned and then turned away 1 when the blind came to him. 2 You never know. Perhaps he wanted to purify himself, 3 Or be reminded and the remembrance would benefit him? 4 As for him who thinketh himself independent, 5 to him didst thou give thy whole attention, 6 though you will not be questioned even if he never purifies himself. 7 As for him who comes to you striving (after goodness), 8 And hath fear, 9 you pay no heed to him. 10 Assuredly this is a reminder 11 Therefore let whoso will, keep it in remembrance. 12 On honourable pages. 13 Exalted, purified, 14 by the hands of scribes 15 Noble and pious. 16 Perish Man! How unthankful he is! 17 From what substance did He create him? 18 He created him from a living germ. He determined his fate 19 Then made his passage easy (at birth); 20 Then He causes him to die, and puts him in his grave; 21 then, when He wills, He raises him. 22 No! Man has not yet accomplished what He commanded him. 23 Let man look at his food: 24 For that We pour forth water in abundance, 25 Then We cracked the earth open under pressure (of germination) 26 Then We cause therein the grain to grow, 27 and grape vines and vegetables, 28 And olives and date-palms, 29 And gardens, dense with many trees, 30 And fruit and grass - 31 A provision for you and for your cattle. 32 But when the deafening blast is sounded, 33 On the Day whereon a man shall flee from his brother, 34 mother, father, 35 And from his wife and his children. 36 every man that day shall have business to suffice him. 37 Some faces on that day shall shine 38 laughing and joyous 39 And (many) faces on that day, on them shall be dust, 40 Veiled in darkness, 41 These are they who are unbelievers, the wicked. 42
