He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the Name of Allah, the Merciful, the Most Merciful
۞ The Prophet frowned and turned away 1 that the blind man came to him. 2 for how can you know that he might seek to purify himself, 3 Or be admonished, so that the admonition might have profited him? 4 As for him who thinks himself self-sufficient, 5 to a rich man, 6 though you will not be questioned even if he never purifies himself. 7 And he who comes to thee eagerly 8 And is also fearful (of God), 9 Of him wast thou unmindful. 10 By no means! Verily it is an admonition. 11 so let those who want to follow its guidance do so. 12 Inscribed in Writs honoured, 13 lofty and pure, 14 by the hands of scribes 15 Who are noble, virtuous. 16 Woe to man! What hath made him reject Allah; 17 Of what [stuff] has He created him? 18 From a sperm-drop: He hath created him, and then mouldeth him in due proportions; 19 Then eased the way for him. 20 Then He causes his death and provides a grave for him. 21 then, He will raise him when He wills. 22 Indeed, he has not fulfilled that which He has ordered him. 23 Let man, then, consider [the sources of] his food: 24 We poured down rain abundantly, 25 Then We cracked the earth open under pressure (of germination) 26 how We made the grain to grow, 27 and grape vines and vegetables, 28 and olives, and palms, 29 the densely tree'd gardens, 30 and fruits and herbage, 31 for you and for your herds to delight in. 32 But when the Shout cometh 33 On the Day whereon a man shall flee from his brother, 34 And his mother and his father, 35 his wife and his sons: 36 for on that day everyone will be completely engrossed in his own concerns. 37 [Some] faces, that Day, will be bright - 38 laughing, joyous; 39 And many will be dust-begrimed, 40 Darkness shall cover them. 41 Those, they are the unbelievers, the immoral. 42
