The chiefs of Pharaoh's people said: Lo! this is some knowing wizard, 109 who desires to expel you from your land; what do you command?' 110 They said, 'Put him and his brother off a while, and send among the cities musterers, 111 to bring together at the Pharaohs court all the skillful magicians. 112 And the enchanters came to Firon (and) said: We must surely have a reward if we are the prevailing ones. 113 He said: "Yea, (and more),- for ye shall in that case be (raised to posts) nearest (to my person)." 114 They said: 'Moses, will you throw first or shall we be the throwers' 115 He said: Throw! And when they threw they cast a spell upon the people's eyes, and overawed them, and produced a mighty spell. 116 Then We revealed to Moses: 'Now, throw down your staff' And thereupon it swallowed up their false invention. 117 ۞ So the truth came to pass, and false was proved what they were doing. 118 they were defeated and turned belittled, 119 And the magicians fell down in prostration [to Allah]. 120 saying, "We declare our belief in the Lord of the Universe, 121 the Lord of Moses and Aaron. 122 Pharaoh said: 'Do you believe in Him before I permit? This is a plot that you have contrived in the city in order to expel its people from it. Now you shall know! 123 I will surely cut off your hands and your feet on opposite sides; then I will surely crucify you all." 124 They said: Surely to our Lord shall we go back: 125 Will you punish us just because we believed in the signs of our Lord when they came to us? Our Lord! Shower us with perseverance and cause us to die as those who have submitted [to You].' 126
