Vanity (Al-Zukhruf)
In the Name of God, the Merciful, the Compassionate
Ha-Mim. 1 I swear by the illustrious Book. 2 We have made it an Arabic Quran so that you may understand. 3 and behold, it is in the Essence of the Book, with Us; sublime indeed, wise. 4 What! shall We then turn away the reminder from you altogether because you are an extravagant people? 5 How many a prophet did We send among the men of old! 6 And never came there unto them a prophet but they used to mock him. 7 so We destroyed those who were mightier in courage than they. And the example of the ancients has passed away. 8 Yet if you were to ask them: “Who created the heavens and the earth?” they will certainly say: “The All-Mighty, the All-Knowing has created them.” 9 Who hath made for you the earth a bed, and hath made for you paths therein that haply ye may be directed. 10 And Who sendeth down from the heaven water in measure; then We quicken a dead land therewith: even so ye shall be brought forth. 11 it is He who created all living things in pairs and gave you ships to sail in and beasts to ride upon 12 so that perhaps when you ride them, you will recall the bounties of your Lord and when you establish your control over it you would say, "Glory belongs to Him who has made it subservient to us when we would not have been able to do so ourselves. 13 And indeed we, to our Lord, will [surely] return." 14 Yet they have assigned to Him a part of His own servants! Man is dearly unthankful. 15
