Samood gave the lie to the apostles 141 When their brother Salih said to them, "Will you not fear Allah? 142 I am for you a faithful Messenger, 143 “Therefore fear Allah and obey me.” 144 "And no reward whatever do I ask of you for it: my reward rests with none but the Sustainer of all the worlds. 145 Do you think that you will be left secure [forever] -- 146 amidst the gardens, springs, 147 And cornfields and palm-trees having fine spadices? 148 And you carve out of the mountains, homes, with skill. 149 "But fear Allah and obey me; 150 and obey not the commandment of the prodigal 151 who do corruption in the earth, and set not things aright.' 152 They said: "Thou art only one of those bewitched! 153 "Thou art no more than a mortal like us: then bring us a Sign, if thou tellest the truth!" 154 He said, "This is a she-camel. She will have her share of water as you have your share, each on a certain day. 155 and do not touch her with malice so that there seize you the chastisement of a dreadful day.' 156 But they hamstrung her, and in the morning they were remorseful, 157 So the chastisement seized them. Surely there is a Sign in this, but most of them would not believe. 158 Your Lord, He is the Almighty, the Most Merciful. 159
