The Inevitable (Al-Waaqe'ah)
In the Name of Allah, the Most Beneficent, the Most Merciful
۞ When the Terror descends 1 There is about its happening no lie. 2 abasing, exalting, 3 When the earth will be shaken with a terrible shake. 4 And the mountains are broken down, crumbling 5 becoming scattered dust, 6 [on that Day,] then, shall you be [divided into] three kinds. 7 Companions of the Right (O Companions of the Right!) 8 Then those of the left hand -- how (unhappy) will be those of the left hand! 9 And the Outstrippers, the Outstrippers 10 Those are they who will be brought nigh 11 They will dwell in the Gardens of Bliss: 12 a good many of those of olden times, 13 And a few of those of later time. 14 (They will be) on thrones woven with gold and precious stones, 15 reclining on them, arrayed face to face; 16 they will be waited on by ageless youths 17 With goblets and ewers and a cup of limpid drink. 18 No headache will they have therefrom, nor will they be intoxicated - 19 with fruits of their own choice 20 And the flesh of fowls that they desire. 21 And pure, beautiful ones, 22 like pearls preserved in their shells, 23 A Reward for the deeds of their past (life). 24 No Laghw (dirty, false, evil vain talk) will they hear therein, nor any sinful speech (like backbiting, etc.). 25 Other than "Peace, peace" the salutation. 26 And those on the right – how (fortunate) are those on the right! 27 Among thorn-less lote-trees. 28 and clustered bananas, 29 and amid the extended shade 30 And water everflowing. 31 And fruit, abundant [and varied], 32 Whose season is not limited, and their supply will not be cut off, 33 And exalted thrones. 34 Perfectly We formed them, perfect, 35 And made them virgins, 36 intensely loving and of matching age. 37 For those on the Right Hand. 38
