The Inevitable (Al-Waaqe'ah)
In the Name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
۞ When the Event will come to pass 1 (and none denies its descending) 2 abasing, exalting, 3 This will happen when the earth is shaken, shaken 4 And the mountains are crumbled, crumbled. 5 Turned to dust, floating in the air, 6 You will become three categories: 7 Thus, there shall be such as will have attained to what is right: oh, how [happy] will be they who have attained to what is right! 8 And (then) those on the left hand; what of those on the left hand? 9 Then the foremost, how pre-excellent, 10 they who were [always] drawn close unto God! 11 In the Gardens of Pleasure, 12 A [large] company of the former peoples 13 And a few of those (foremost) will be from the later time (generations). 14 (They will be) on Thrones encrusted (with gold and precious stones), 15 reclining upon them, facing one another [in love]. 16 (and there) shall wait on them immortal youths 17 With goblets and ewers and a cup of limpid drink. 18 Their heads shall not ache with it, nor shall they lose their senses. 19 and such fruits as they shall choose, 20 And with flesh of fowls from that which they desire. 21 And [for them are] fair women with large, [beautiful] eyes, 22 beautiful as pearls hidden in their shells. 23 as reward for their deeds. 24 Not frivolity will they hear therein, nor any taint of ill,- 25 Except the saying, “Peace, peace.” 26 The Companions of the Right Hand,- what will be the Companions of the Right Hand? 27 They will live amid the thornless lot trees 28 and banana trees, 29 And a shade ever-spread. 30 and outpoured waters, 31 And fruit abundant. 32 Unending, unforbidden, 33 And exalted thrones. 34 We have formed them in a distinctive fashion, 35 And made them virgins. 36 intensely loving and of matching age. 37 for the people of the right hand 38
