He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the Name of God, the Merciful, the Compassionate
۞ The Prophet frowned and turned away 1 when the blind man approached him, 2 What made you think that he will not grow in virtue, 3 or have been reminded [of the truth,] and helped by this reminder. 4 As for him who regardeth himself self-sufficient 5 So you are after him! 6 And no blame is on you if he would not purify himself 7 As for him who comes to you striving (after goodness), 8 And with fear (in his heart), 9 you pay him no heed. 10 By no means (should it be so)! For it is indeed a Message of instruction: 11 So whoever wills, let him pay attention to it. 12 (It is) in Records held (greatly) in honour (Al-Lauh Al-Mahfuz). 13 lofty and pure, 14 By the hands of scribes. 15 Noble, virtuous. 16 Perish the human! How unthankful he is! 17 Of what thing hath He created him? 18 Out of a sperm-drop did He create him and then determined a measure for him, 19 He makes his path easy for him. 20 Then He causeth him to die, and putteth him in his grave; 21 Then when He listeth, He shall raise him to life. 22 By no means he performed not that which He had commanded him. 23 Let man look at his food: 24 We let the rain pour down in torrents 25 Then split the earth in clefts 26 how We made the grain to grow, 27 together with grapes and vegetables, 28 and olives and palms, 29 thickly planted gardens, 30 and fruits, and pastures, 31 A provision for you and for your cattle. 32 AND SO, when the piercing call [of resurrection] is heard 33 on a Day when everyone will [want to] flee from his brother, 34 And from his mother and his father, 35 his wife and his sons: 36 For every man, that Day, will be a matter adequate for him. 37 Some faces that Day will be beaming, 38 laughing and joyous 39 And (many) faces on that day, on them shall be dust, 40 o'erspread with darkness -- 41 those -- they are the unbelievers, the libertines. 42
