The Romans (Al-Room)
In the name of Allah, the Merciful, the Compassionate
۞ ALIF LAM MIM. 1 The Byzantines have been defeated 2 In the nearby land, and after their defeat they will soon be victorious. 3 within a few years: [for] with God rests all power of decision, first and last. And on that day will the believers [too, have cause to] rejoice 4 He helps whomever He wants. He is Majestic and All-merciful. 5 The promise of Allah; Allah does not renege on His promise, but most people do not know. 6 They only know the palpable life of this world, and are oblivious of the Hereafter. 7 Do they not ponder about their own selves? God has created the heavens and the earth and all that is between them for a purpose and for an appointed time? Yet many deny they will ever meet with their Lord. 8 And did they not travel in the land to see what sort of fate befell those before them? They were stronger than them, and they cultivated the land and inhabited it more than them, and their Noble Messengers came to them with clear proofs; so it did not befit Allah’s Majesty to oppress them, but it was they who used to wrong themselves. 9 Evil was the end of those evil-doers, for they gave the lie to Allah's Signs and scoffed at them. 10
