He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the Name of Allah, the Most Beneficent, the Most Merciful
۞ He frowned and turned away 1 from a blind man who had come up to him. 2 for how can you know that he might seek to purify himself, 3 Or be reminded and the remembrance would benefit him? 4 As for him who was indifferent, 5 to him didst thou give thy whole attention, 6 though you will not be questioned even if he never purifies himself. 7 And for him who came to you striving, 8 and fearfully, 9 Of him you are neglectful and divert your attention to another, 10 By no means (should it be so)! For it is indeed a Message of instruction: 11 and so, whoever is willing may remember Him 12 In honored books, 13 exalted, purified, 14 by the hands of scribes 15 noble and purified. 16 Perish man! how ungrateful he is! 17 Of what substance God created him? 18 Out of a drop of sperm! He creates and proportions him, 19 then eased his path for him, 20 Then He causes him to die, then assigns to him a grave, 21 Then when He listeth, He shall raise him to life. 22 Nay; but he has not done what He bade him. 23 Let the human being think about (how We produce) his food. 24 That We pour down the water, pouring (it) down in abundance, 25 And We split the earth in fragments, 26 and thereupon We cause grain to grow out of it, 27 together with grapes and vegetables, 28 And olives and date-palms, 29 and dense orchards, 30 And fruits and herbage 31 (These are made so as to be) means of enjoyment for you and your cattle. 32 Then when cometh the Deafening Cry 33 On the Day whereon a man shall flee from his brother, 34 And his mother and his father, 35 And his spouse and his son-- 36 For every man, that Day, will be a matter adequate for him. 37 on that Day some faces will be beaming, 38 laughing and joyful, 39 And many a face will be covered with dust on that day. 40 Blackness will cover them: 41 Such will be the Kafarah (disbelievers in Allah, in His Oneness, and in His Messenger Muhammad (Peace be upon him), etc.), the Fajarah (wicked evil doers). 42
