He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the Name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
۞ The Prophet frowned and turned away 1 that the blind man came to him. 2 But what would make you perceive, [O Muhammad], that perhaps he might be purified 3 Or that he might receive admonition, and the teaching might profit him? 4 Now as for him who believes himself to be self-sufficient 5 you attend to him, 6 though it is not thy concern, if he does not cleanse himself. 7 but as for one who comes to you, eagerly 8 And he fears, 9 Of him you are neglectful and divert your attention to another, 10 No indeed; it is a Reminder 11 So let whosoever will pay heed to it, 12 upon pages high-honoured, 13 exalted, purified, 14 By the hands of scribes. 15 Noble and righteous. 16 Perish the human! How unthankful he is! 17 Of what substance God created him? 18 From a drop of seed. He createth him and proportioneth him, 19 Then He eased the way for him; 20 Then He causeth him to die, and putteth him in his grave; 21 Then, when it is His Will, He will raise him up (again). 22 By no means he performed not that which He had commanded him. 23 Then let man look to his food, 24 That We pour forth water in abundance, 25 Then We broke open the earth, splitting [it with sprouts], 26 and therein made the grains to grow 27 grapes, vegetables, 28 olives, dates, 29 the densely tree'd gardens, 30 and fruits, and pastures, 31 for you and for your animals to enjoy. 32 So when the deafening Shout arrives, 33 Man will fly from his brother, 34 And his mother and his father, 35 As well as his wife and children. 36 for on that day everyone will be completely engrossed in his own concerns. 37 Many a face will be glittering on that day. 38 Laughing, rejoicing at good news. 39 some faces on that day shall be dusty 40 Darkness shall cover them. 41 These will be the faces of the sinful disbelievers. 42
