The great ones among Pharaoh's people said: "Verily, this is indeed a sorcerer of great knowledge, 109 Who would expel you from your land. Now what do ye advise? 110 They answered: "Let him and his brother wait awhile, and send unto all cities heralds 111 And bring up to thee all (our) sorcerers well-versed." 112 And the sorcerers came unto Pharaoh [and] said: "Verily, we ought to have a great reward if it is we who prevail." 113 "Yes," said he, "you will be among the honoured." 114 They said, "Moses, will you first throw, or shall we?" 115 He said: Throw! And when they threw they cast a spell upon the people's eyes, and overawed them, and produced a mighty spell. 116 And We inspired Moosa that, “Put forth your staff”; it immediately began swallowing up their fabrications. 117 ۞ Thus the truth was upheld, and the falsehood that they practised was exposed. 118 Thus were they there defeated and brought low. 119 And the magicians were obliged to fall prostrate. 120 and said, "We believe in the Lord of the Universe, 121 The Lord of Moses and Aaron." 122 Said Pharaoh, 'You have believed in Him before I gave you leave. Surely this is a device you have devised in the city that you may expel its people from it. Now you shall know! 123 Surely I shall have your hands and feet cut off upon alternate sides. Then I shall crucify you every one. 124 They answered: "We have (in any case) to go back to our Lord. 125 Thou takest vengeance on us only forasmuch as we believed the tokens of our Lord when they came unto us. Our Lord! Vouchsafe unto us steadfastness and make us die as men who have surrendered (unto Thee). 126
