The Mountain (Al-Toor)
In the name of God, The Most Gracious, The Dispenser of Grace
By the Mount (Sinai), 1 And [by] a Book inscribed 2 on unrolled parchment, 3 by the much-visited House, 4 And the roof exalted, 5 and by the swelling ocean, 6 surely, the punishment of your Lord is about to come, 7 and no one will be able to prevent it. 8 (It shall come to pass) on the Day when the heaven will convulse in a great convulsion, 9 and the mountains shudder and shake. 10 Woe, then, on that Day to those who give the lie (to this Message) 11 Who, ignoring the Reality, engage in pleasantries. 12 On that Day when they shall be pitched into the Fire of Gehenna (Hell), 13 'This is the fire that you cried lies to! 14 “So is this magic, or are you unable to see?” 15 Now enter it. Whether you behave patiently or impatiently will make no difference: you are only being repaid for what you have done. 16 Verily, the Muttaqun (pious - see V. 2:2) will be in Gardens (Paradise), and Delight. 17 Rejoicing because of what their Lord gave them, and their Lord saved them from the punishment of the burning fire. 18 They will be told, "Eat and drink to your heart's delight for what you have done". 19 They will recline on couches arranged in rows and We shall couple them with maidens with large, lovely eyes. 20 And those who believed, and whose progeny also followed them in their faith, will be united with their offspring. We will not deprive them of their labour in the least. Every man is bound to what he does. 21 And We shall increasingly give them fruit and meat such as they desire. 22 They will exchange cups of wine free of (incitement to) pleasantry or sin. 23 ۞ And there will go round boy-servants of theirs, to serve them as if they were preserved pearls. 24 They will turn to one another ask questions, 25 'When we were among our people' they will say, 'we were ever fearful, 26 but Allah has been gracious to us and has protected us from the punishment of the burning wind. 27 Verily, we did invoke Him [alone] ere this: [and now He has shown us] that He alone is truly benign, a true dispenser of grace!" 28
