The Mountain (Al-Toor)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
By the Mount, 1 And a Scripture inscribed 2 on wide-open scrolls. 3 by the much-visited House, 4 By the Canopy Raised High; 5 By the sea overflowing. 6 the punishment of your Lord shall certainly come to pass, 7 Of it there is no preventer. 8 On the Day the heaven will sway with circular motion 9 The mountains move and fly away, 10 Woe, then, will be on that Day to the beliers 11 Who are in [empty] discourse amusing themselves. 12 On that day they will be violently pushed into the fire 13 This is the fire which you used to give the lie to. 14 Is it magic then or do you not see? 15 Now enter it. Whether you behave patiently or impatiently will make no difference: you are only being repaid for what you have done. 16 The pious will live in bountiful Paradise, 17 Delighted at the bestowal of their Lord; and their Lord has saved them from the fire. 18 'Eat and drink, with wholesome appetite, for that you were working. 19 They will recline (with ease) on Thrones (of dignity) arranged in ranks; and We shall join them to Companions, with beautiful big and lustrous eyes. 20 To those who have attained to faith We shall unite their offspring who have also followed them in faith, and We shall not let any of their good deeds go unrewarded; every human being is a pledge for whatever he has earned. 21 And We will provide them with fruit and meat from whatever they desire. 22 They will therein snatch from one another a cup; therein will be neither vain babble nor sin. 23 ۞ And round them shall go boys of theirs as if they were hidden pearls. 24 They will turn to one another ask questions, 25 They say, 'We were before among our people, ever going in fear, 26 but Allah has been gracious to us and has protected us from the punishment of the burning wind. 27 Lo! we used to pray unto Him of old. Lo! He is the Benign, the Merciful. 28
