He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
۞ HE FROWNED AND turned away, 1 Because there came to him the blind man, [interrupting]. 2 And what could let you know? Perhaps he (comes to hear you) to be purified. 3 Or be admonished, and the admonition profit him? 4 Yet you pay attention 5 To him dost thou attend; 6 Though it is no blame to thee if he grow not (in spiritual understanding). 7 And to him who came to you eagerly 8 And hath fear, 9 to him thou payest no heed. 10 No indeed; this is only a Reminder. 11 and so, whoever is willing may remember Him 12 It is set down on honoured pages, 13 Exalted (in dignity), purified, 14 by the hands of scribes 15 Who are noble, virtuous. 16 Accursed is man. How ungrateful is he! 17 Of what [stuff] has He created him? 18 From a sperm-drop He created him and destined for him; 19 Then doth He make His path smooth for him; 20 Then He caused him to die and be buried 21 and then, if it be His will, He shall raise him again to life, 22 By no means hath he fulfilled what Allah hath commanded him. 23 Let man therefore consider (the sources of) his food. 24 That We watered it in abundance. 25 Then We cleave the earth, cleaving (it) asunder, 26 And We made corn grow, 27 And grapes and fodder, 28 olives, dates, 29 and burgeoning enclosed gardens 30 and fruits and herbage, 31 all this as a provision for you and your cattle. 32 At length, when there comes the Deafening Noise,- 33 That Day shall a man flee from his brother, 34 his mother and his father, 35 And his spouse and his son-- 36 For every one of them on that Day shall be business enough to occupy 37 On that day faces will be bright as dawn, 38 Laughing, rejoicing at good news (of Paradise). 39 And (many) faces on that day, on them shall be dust, 40 Blackness will cover them: 41 Those are the disbelievers, the wicked. 42
