He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful
۞ He frowned and turned away 1 Because there came to him the blind man. 2 You never know. Perhaps he wanted to purify himself, 3 (He might) remember, and the Reminder might profit him. 4 Now he who waxes indifferent, 5 To him dost thou attend; 6 though you are not to be blamed if he would not purify himself -- 7 but as for one who comes to you, eagerly 8 And is afraid (of Allah and His Punishment), 9 From him thou art distracted. 10 No indeed; this is only a Reminder. 11 and whosoever wills, shall remember it. 12 (It is) in Records held (greatly) in honour (Al-Lauh Al-Mahfuz). 13 Exalted (in dignity), kept pure and holy, 14 In the hands of scribes 15 Honourable and Virtuous. 16 [But only too often] man destroys himself: how stubbornly does he deny the truth! 17 From what substance did He create him? 18 From a single sperm He created, then proportioned him, 19 and then makes it easy for him to go through life; 20 then He caused him to die and brought him to the grave, 21 Then when He pleases, He will raise him to life again. 22 Yet man declines to do His bidding. 23 So man must look at his food. 24 We poured out the rains abundantly, 25 and then We cleaved the earth asunder. 26 Then We cause to grow therein the grain, 27 And grapes and fodder, 28 And olive-trees and palm-trees 29 And dense gardens, 30 And fruits and grasses: 31 A provision for you and your cattle. 32 But when the deafening cry shall be sounded 33 on that Day a man shall flee from his own brother, 34 And from his mother and his father, 35 and from his spouse and his children: 36 on that Day each will be occupied with his own business, making him oblivious of all save himself. 37 (Many) faces on that day shall be bright, 38 Laughing and full of joy, 39 And many a face will be covered with dust on that day. 40 and covered by darkness. 41 Such will be the Rejecters of Allah, the doers of iniquity. 42
