He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
۞ He frowned and then turned away 1 from a blind man who had come up to him. 2 And what should teach thee? Perchance he would cleanse him, 3 Or that he might receive admonition, and the teaching might profit him? 4 As for him who is not in want of any thing, 5 you attend to him, 6 though it is not thy concern, if he does not cleanse himself. 7 but as for one who comes to you, eagerly 8 And he feareth 9 to him thou payest no heed. 10 No indeed; it is a Reminder 11 So let him who pleases mind it. 12 It is set down on honoured pages, 13 Exalted (in dignity), purified, 14 by the hands of scribes 15 noble, pious. 16 Woe to man! How ungrateful he is! 17 Out of what did Allah create him? 18 Of a small seed; He created him, then He made him according to a measure, 19 Then He eased the way for him; 20 Then He causes his death and provides a grave for him. 21 then, He will raise him when He wills. 22 Not one – he has not yet completed what he was commanded. 23 Then let man look at his food, (and how We provide it): 24 We let the rain pour down in torrents 25 and then We cleave the earth [with new growth,] cleaving it asunder, 26 to yield therein corn, 27 And grapes and herbage, 28 And the olive and the palm, 29 And dense gardens, 30 and fruit and pastures, 31 for you and for your animals to enjoy. 32 When the trumpet sounds, 33 That Day shall a man flee from his own brother, 34 and from his mother and father, 35 his wife and his children. 36 on that Day each will be occupied with his own business, making him oblivious of all save himself. 37 Some faces on that Day shall be beaming with happiness, 38 Laughing and full of joy, 39 but some faces will be covered with dust 40 Veiled in darkness, 41 These are they who are unbelievers, the wicked. 42
